I then limit the frames to 75 using msi afterburner/rivatuner & simply decide whether a title works better or not with it's own v-sync settings. I should just mention that I'm using a msi gtx780ti.Īnyway, only recently have I found that what seems to work very well for me is to completetly disable v-sync in the nvidia control panel. Lately I've been tinkering with my GPU & being able to downsample to the rift. But it is only marginally helpful since having a variable refresh rate depending on content generation, will most likely show up as jitter in the DK2. Later versions will probably have even higher refresh to further improve latency.Īn alternative solution is something like NVidia G-Sync where the GFX card tells the monitor when to refresh instead of the other way around. So to actually decrease latency you need to increase the monitor refresh rate like Oculus does by tweaking the Samsung display from 60hz to 75hz.
the latency is still limited to monitor refresh (1/60hz). So if you disable vsync and draw at 120hz, the monitor will still only refresh at 60hz (assuming a 60hz screen mode is active) and end up showing every other picture of a mix of both if the timing is off. Disabling vsync does not mean that the monitor will change refresh rate, only that the gfx card stops syncing to the monitor refresh. Vsync is just a signal for the monitor to the gfx card, telling when the actual refresh of the monitor display occurs.
